Description
A 65-page softback book published in by Mainline and Maritime in 2020 and written by the author Oliver Edwards in which contains full range of steam locomotives that became constructed by the famous Leeds locomotive builders Hunslett in both narrow gauge and standard gauge form, which have been thankfully preserved for enthusiasts to enjoy. Hunslet began building locomotives as early as 1864 and became known for some of the most iconic designs to ever have been built such as 0-6-0 Austerity type locomotives. In preservation, these examples have been workhorses for many railways including Middleton Railway, Bala Lake Railway, Launcceston Railway, Ffestiniog Railway, Welshpool & Llanfair Railway, Dean Forest Railway, Tanfield Railway, Gwili Railway, Spa Valley Railway, Kent and East Sussex Railway among others. While some have been able to raise steam, others have just been preserved purely as a static display such as at Bressingham Museum and Statfold Barn. Therefore this book has been published to look at the amazing locomotives that have now been preserved and are able to celebrate the heritage of the former Leeds based locomotive builder.
