Description
An Online Video production looking at various modes of transport from the bygone era in and around Southampton. Firstly a look at the shipping scenes of 1910’s and 1920’s with various liners being docked. Also see Queen Mary prior to her maiden voyage and also Aquatania on her last voyage in 1950. Then we look at the tram system, initially a trip filmed in 1901 on board a tram with a brief of first trams used and latter introductions. A look is taken in the tramway extensions between 1920 and 1923 with footage of late 1920’s of a busy peak hour service scenes around the docks. Also discover the extensions of 1930 plus specially decorated trams to commemorate silver jubilee of King George V. Final look at the tramway system with the demise and eventual closure between 1948 and 1949 with scenes including the last day of service. Next feature is of the buses and the services which they ran in and around Southampton provided by a variety such as Guy Arabs, AEC’s, Albion’s and Leyland Titans. DVD then finishes off with a look at the railway scene including freight and boat trains to the docks as well as main line express passenger services along with industrial scenes at Southampton Power Station.
