Description
Published in 2020 by Mainline and Maritime, this book written by author Phil Barnes is a 68-page softback illustrated album covering railway subjects on the Isle of Mann with each of the photographs taken during a 7-day outing organised by Bluebell Railway in September 2019. The Isle of Mann, which covers an area of 222 square miles, has been widely known for its varied method of rail transport and each of these that survive have been featured in this book. It starts off with a photographic look at the preserved 3-foot narrow gauge Isle Of Mann Steam Railway which runs for 15 ½ miles between Douglas and Port Erin. Then a look at the 17 miles 3-foot gauge tramway system Manx Electric Railway that operates between Douglas, Laxey, and Ramsey. This is followed by a photographic collection on the 1-mile 3-foot gauge Douglas Horse Tramway system. Also included is the 3-foot 6-inch gauge 5 ½ mile long Snaefell Mountain Railway that runs between Snaefell and Laxey. A good photographic selection is shown for the Groudle Glen Railway, a preserved ¾ mile-long 2-foot gauge railway at Onchan. Next is a preserved 19-inch gauge railway, Great Laxey Mines Railway then followed by The Orchid Line which is a multi-gauge miniature railway operating within the Curraghs Wildlife Park. To complete the book is a small photographic selection of Jurby Transport Museum.
