Description
DVD starts by discovering the early history of the East London Line from 1869 opening between New Cross Gate and Wapping and then the extensions and many changes during the early and mid-1900s. Look at the Q stock in operation including a cab ride followed on with the replacement by 1938 standard tube stock then the A60 and A62 stock from the 1970s. A further feature is of the CO/CP stock farewell tour of 1981 then the operation of D stock from 1985 onwards. In 1994 the line was closed and refurbished being reopened in 1998 and is shown plus in 2007 preserved 1938 stock on a rail tour just before the line closed again. The line is shown reopened in 2010 heavily upgraded and now part of London Overground with present-day scenes showing evidence of the changes. Present-day scenes follow the system starting at Whitechapel and going onwards to Shadwell, Wapping, Rotherhithe, Canada Water, Surrey Quays, New Cross, and New Cross Gate. The present-day era also features the newly built London Overground extension from New Cross Gate to Brockley, Honour Oak Park, Forrest Hill, Sydenham, Penge West, Anerley, Norwood Junction, and West Croydon plus the Crystal Palace Branch. DVD then concludes with a look into the future from 2011 with London Overground plans.
