Description
A double-disc with the first disc of 50 minutes dedicated to the past history of District Line from original openings under steam haulage in 1868 through the extensions and electrification that took place. Disc also looks at the varied rolling stock used through the early days plus the F stock after First World War. A car ride filmed in 1930s is featured and shows many upgrades and developments that took place. Discover the Q stock introduced in the 1930s as well as the huge amount of damage caused to the district line during World War 2. Look at the R stock which was introduced late 1950’s as well as taking a cab ride on the South Acton Branch shortly before closure in 1959. See the station at Barking after being rebuilt in 1971 and find out about the withdrawal of services between Acton Town and Hounslow West. Disc 1 also describes the co/cp stock in use after being transferred from other lines then an in depth look at D stock introduced from 1981. An enthusiast farewell tour of co/cp stock in 1981 is also featured along with the last services of R stock between 1981 and 1983. A further feature is of preserved electric locomotive Sarah Siddons along with preserved pannier tank steam locomotive L99 working 125-year celebrations in June 1993 between West Kensington and Ealing Broadway. 125-year anniversary celebrations also had in September 1993 an open day in Ealing Common Depot. Disc 2 is 100 minutes dedicated to looking at the District Line in the present form of 2008. Divided up into sections. The first part starts out at Edgware Road and heads onto Paddington, Bayswater, Notting Hill Gate, High Street Kensington, Earls Court, West Brompton, Fulham Broadway, Parsons Green, Putney Bridge, East Putney, Southfields, and Wimbledon Park then into Wimbledon. The next feature is the short shuttle between Earls Court and Kensington Olympia. Third Park starts at Earls Court before going on to West Kensington, Barons Court, Hammersmith, Ravenscourt Park, Stamford Brook, Turnham Green, Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens, and Richmond. The next feature starts out at Chiswick Park then onwards to Acton Town, Ealing Common, and Ealing Broadway. The fifth part starts out at Upminster and goes onto Upminster Bridge, Hornchurch, Elm Park, Dagenham East, Dagenham Heathway, Becontree, Upney, Barking, East Ham, Upton Park, Plaistow, West Ham, Bromley By Bow, Bow Road, Mile End, Stepney Green, Whitechapel, and Aldgate East. The final part starts off from Tower Hill then heads onwards to Monument, Cannon Street, Mansion House, Blackfriars, Temple, Embankment, Westminster, St James Park, Victoria, Sloane Square, South Kensington, Gloucester Road, and then into Earls Court.
