Description
240 page hardback book written by author Andrew Wiltshire published in 2016 by Mainline and Maritime. Andrew Wiltshire in this book tells the story of a city in motion. From the 1840’s when horse drawn buses were running on the streets of Cardiff to the present day when Euro 6 specification Mercedes Benz Citaro Saloons glide through those same streets. Just as Cardiff has grown in size with many areas changing beyond all recognition, so it’s muncipal bus fleet has moved with the times to address the evolution of a city. There have been many changes in livery and vehicle policy over the years, In the 1930’s double deckers were prominent but by the 1990’s single deckers had taken their place. Deregulation in 1986 marked a major change of gear in the management of the network and faced with ever increasing congestion on the roads of the city, the introduction of bus lanes and bus priority measures in recent years have kept the wheels of Cardiff’s buses moving. Throughout this book a chronological look at the types of vehicles operated by Cardiff’s muncipal fleet and its successor up to the present day and includes motor buses and trolleybuses. Contained within the 240 pages is over 220 colour and black and white photographs as well as over 80 tables of information. Book is certainly one of detailed history for enthusiasts and historians.
