Description
An Online Video production looking at steam operation in and around the county of Kent both past and present. Start off with scenes from festival of steam held in 1999 and also 2000 at Maidstone West. We then go back in time to 1950’s with steam working at Tonbridge, Maidstone West, Gravesend West and former Hawkhurst and Westerham Branch. Next are scenes dating even further back to 1938 at Sandling Junction along with branch line to Folkestone Harbour. Kent and East Sussex Railway are featured with scenes dating 1927 and 1952 followed by reopening in preservation during 1974, opening of preserved extension to Bodiam in 2000. Also featured are scenes from 1960’s of 15 inch gauge mainline miniature railway known as Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. Swanscombe Paper Mills are shown from scenes of 1970’s along with 1968 scenes of Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway and Aylesford Paper Mills including a cab ride on board their resident industrial steam locomotive “Howe”. More industrial scenes show Snowdown Colliery and Betteshanger Colliery inn 1970 then modern day scenes of remains from Snowdown Colliery. These scenes are then linked with looking at the preserved former colliery line East Kent Railway with the DVD finishing off by showing some of the steam excursions that have worked in and around Kent in early 2000’s.

Locations featured include Ashford International, Aylesford Paper Mills, Bearsted, Betteshanger Colliery, Biddenden Road, Bodiam, Brixton, Canterbury West, Dover Priory, East Farleigh, Folkestone East Junction, Folkestone Harbour, Headcorn, High Halden, Hythe, Kemsley, London Victoria, Longfield Halt, Maidstone West, Marden, Ramsgate, Robertsbridge, Rolvenden, Sandling Junction, Shepherdswell, Sittingbourne Paper Mills, Sittingbourne Viaduct, Snowdown Colliery, St Michaels, Staplehurst, Swanscombe Paper Mills, Tonbridge and Wandsworth Road.
