Description
An Online Video production released in 2009 looking at the now preserved Swanage Railway both prior and since the start of preservation. DVD starts off with scenes if British Railway Days in 1963 with China Clay workings in and out of Furzebrook Sidings. Then scenes from 1969 with much of the line in a state of dereliction and services worked by 3 car diesel multiple units commonly known as Thumpers with a trip taken between Swanage and Corfe Castle. At Corfe Castle we take a look at nearby narrow gauge clay mine then carrying on with our journey over Worgret Junction and into Swanage. Scenes dating 1987 show the newly preserved Swanage Railway running between Swanage and New Barn. This is followed by scenes from 1989 where services had been extended to Harmans Cross. Among the scenes are a steam gala, work on rebuilding the station at Corfe Castle and launch of Southern Railway Battle of Britain Class Steam Locomotive 34070 “257 Squadron. In 1990 we see Southern Railway M7 30053 returning to working the line, a feature the locomotive done many times under British Railway. A jump then brings us into 2008 with services now returning to Corfe Castle. A park and ride facility is also available at Nordon. Other scenes of 2008 including the remains of clay mine exchange at Nordon and we get to have a look at driver experience courses being completed by British Railway Standard Class 4 Tank 80104.
