Description
Marsden Rail Production in connection with Cinerail and Videoscene presents 39th title in the popular Marsden Rail series which takes a look at changes of 1960’s in and round the York area plus other parts of the North East. Starting at York where London North eastern Railway A4 Class 4-6-2 locomotives are shown working passenger services along with Class 55 Deltic diesel locomotives. Special excursions are also shown in the hands of British Railway Britannia Class 4-6-2’s, London North Eastern Railway A3 Class 4-6-2’s and London North Eastern Railway A4 Class 4-6-2’s. Freight activity is shown at York Civil Engineers Yard with workings in the hands of British Railway 9F class 2-10-0’s, London North Eastern Railway B16 class 4-6-0’s, London North Eastern Railway V2 class 2-6-2’s plus diesel hauled by class 33 Crompton’s. Moving on to Darlington where London North Eastern Railway V2’s are in charge of excursions whilst LNER J94’s work the freight. Scenes are also shown of Darlington Locomotive Works. Further action of Darlington area include private industrial railway systems such as Patons and Baldwins Worsted Spinning Mills and Darlington Chemical and Insulating Works. We head to Barnards Castle and join a railtour double headed by London Midland Scottish Railway Fowler 4P Class 2-6-4 Tank 42639 and London North Eastern Railway V1 Class 2-6-2 Tank 67646. We take another railtour at Durham behind London North Eastern Railway V1 Class 2-6-2 Tank 67636 as far as Bishop Auckland where LNER B16 4-6-0 61418 takes over onward to West Auckland, Port Clarence and Stockton. Returning to Bishop Auckland for journey on a third railtour this time hauled by LNER K4 3442 “The Great Marquess” on a return journey to St Johns Chapel. Action is then taken at Billingha, with BR WD Austerity Class 2-8-0s working along with LNER Q6 class 0-8-0’s. Also featured are LNER J27’s working freight along the Silksworth Colliery Branch as well as along Seaton Bank near Sunderland. Inbound and outbound Iron Ore Workings at Tyne Dock can also be seen worked by BR 9F’s and LNER Q6’s. This activity shown continues at various points along the Consett Branch. Various type of coal workings at North Blythe and NCB workings at Ashington Colliery and Derwentaugh have been included. Gateshead and Newcastle area are the final features with various types of traffic.
