Marsden Rail Volume 34 - Steam In The North East

Marsden Rail production using footage originally recorded during the 1950’s and 1960’s starting with action at Darlington then onto Eaglescliffe, Billingham and coastal town of Hartlepool which over many years was a major centre for exportation of coal from the Durham coalfields as shown with addition footage recorded at Hart, Crimdon Viaduct and Castle Eden. North from Hartlepool to the location of Sunderland with its motive power depot that played host to many freight classes of locomotive that was used on numerous local colliery traffic. Next feature is of busy National Coal Board Lambton Colliery system complimented by a film made during the 1950’s by National Coal Board at Seaham Harbour. Then we take a visit to Tyne Dock motive power depot with rare 1950’s footage of class T1 4-8-0. Then on to Newcastle Central with many types of London North Eastern Railway locomotives featured in use and also stabled at the nearby Gateshead motive power depot Scenes follow at Manors and Heaton Junction before taking a journey from Manors along the Riverside branch to Tynemouth. Heading further north over the River Tyne with scenes of immense coal traffic at Bedlington, Hartley, Woodhorn and North Blythe. Line west from Morpeth to Scotsgap and Reedsmouth is followed then Alnwick branch which shows footage taken in June 1966 of British Railway 9F in charge of services on the last day of steam operation brings the DVD to a close.
