Marsden Rail Volume 31 - Yorkshire Byways

Marsden Rail production in which starts with views from 1962 at Goole and an ex Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Pug working at the docks plus a visit to the motive power depot where a large number of steam locomotives are stabled. Focus moves to Hull and journeys taken to countryside resorts of Hornsea and Withernsea. Heading northward to Bridlington and joining of a special working to Filey, Whitby and Scarborough where summer excursion traffic from Lancashire and West riding was still in the hands of steam traction. We then feature the enthusiast rail tour at various locations on the coast line between Scarborough and Whitby. Another featured route is 35 mile route from Whitby to Grosmont, Pickering and Malton which includes very rare scenes. Derwent Valley Light Railway is also shown plus action at York and East Coast Main Line. A reminder of local network that got swept away can be seen with views along branches to Clayton West, Holmfirth and Meltham. A move then westward to Halifax with action including high level branch from Holmfirth to Pellon and St Pauls followed by scenes of Queensbury route and Worth Valley branch prior to preservation. Final section includes a journey filmed in 1962 from Wilpshire to Hellifield. At Hellifield action shows a great deal of intensity. North beyond Hellifield and a glimpse of Settle and Carlisle route, a challenging route as could be seen by double headed British Railway 9F’s along with sights of London Midland Scottish Railway Jubilee’s in their last year of service.
