Marsden Rail Volume 20 - York and District

Marsden Rail production that compliments Marsden Rail Volume 1 although no repetition of footage is used. The footage shown within the DVD was originally recorded between 1957 and 1968. Starting at York, variety of activities from light engine movements to passenger services, freight workings and parcel trains are shown with a variety of steam locomotives including British Railway 9F’s, Britannia’s, London Midland Scottish Railway 8F’s, Black 5’s, Jubilee’s, London North Eastern Railway 04%23s, A1’s, A3’s, A4’s, B1’s, B16’s, K1’s and V2’s. Also diesel multiple units and diesel hauled workings with 33’s, 40’s, 45’s, 47’s and 55’. York has been a popular destination with excursion trains as shown with London North Eastern Railway A3 4472 “Flying Scotsman”, 60051 “Blink Bonny” as well as Southern Railway Merchant Navy 35007 “Aberdeen Commonwealth”. Other features include sights of Poppleton Sugar Beet Works using industrial steam locomotives built by Andrew Barclay. Another sight not often recorded but is shown on the DVD is the working with animals being unloaded at York Cattle Dock on behalf of Billy Smart Circus. DVD finishes with varied activity from 1957 at Church Fenton.
