Take a look at passenger and freight services handled by steam and diesel locomotives in and around York on the LNER between 1959 and 1968. Steam includes A1’s 60013 ‘Hal o the Wind’, 60146, ‘Peregrine’ and 60150 ‘Willbrook’. A3 class 60085 ‘Booklaw’ and 60094 ‘Colorado’. A4 class 60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’, 60009 ‘Union of South Africa’, 60017 ‘Silver Fox’, 60021 ‘Wild Swan’ and 60026 ‘Miles Beaver’. B1 class 61010 ‘Wildebeest’ plus B16’s 61444 and 61448. V2 class 60810, 60833, 60839, 60893, J29 65594, 04 class 63667 and 63879. LMS locomotives were also shown in action such as Jubilee Class 45578 ‘United Provinces’ or Black 5’s 45156 and 45273. British Railway steam featured Britannia class 70012 ‘John of Gaunt’, 70020 ‘Mercury’, 70033 ‘Robin Hood’ and WD’s 90379 and 90479. Diesels include class 40’s D256, D286, D301, D339 plus 47’s D1532, D1560 and D1562.No part of East Coast line would be without class 55 Deltic’s D9000 ‘Royal Scots Grey’, D9002 ‘The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry’, D9007 ‘Pinza’, D9008 ‘The Green Howards’, D9009 ‘Alycidon’.
