Riding The DCR Route Learner 3 - Inverness To Perth

A Train Crazy Production in co-operation with Videoscene and with the full assistance of Devon and Cornwall Railways takes us on a cab ride on board class 31 diesel locomotive 31601 as it embarks on a route learning trip from Bo’ness to Carlisle via Aberdeen, Inverness and Perth. This DVD features 118 mile route filmed on 28th December 2014 from Inverness to Perth along the Scottish Highland Main Line via Aviemore and Pitlochry. Journey begins at 08:53 departing from Millburn Yard at Aberdeen going over Millburn Junction on the up main and on to the Highland Main Line under the method of track circuit block working to Culloden. At Culloden we head on to single track and head to Moy Loop where we take a pause whilst allowing another train to pass by. Back on the move we head over Slochd Summit at 1,315 feet above sea level onwards to Carrbridge then Aviemore. Stopping at the picturesque station on Aviemore we wait once more to allow another train to pass by before going on to Kingussie. After leaving Kingussie locomotive works under tokenless block working to Dalwhinnie. From Dalwhinnie we head on to double track along the up main under control of absolute block working method passing over Druimuachdar Summit 1,484 feet above sea level then on to Blair Atholl. Upon reaching Blair Atholl, we return to single track and operating under the system of tokenless block working we go to Pitlochry, Dunkeld and Birnam and then onward to Stanley Junction. At Stanley Junction 31601 enters double track section running on the up main under track circuit block working for the final part of the journey featured to Perth arriving in platform 4 at 11:16.
