Riding The DCR Route Learner 2 - Aberdeen To Inverness

A Train Crazy Production in co-operation with Videoscene and with the full assistance of Devon and Cornwall Railways takes us on a cab ride on board class 31 diesel locomotive 31601 as it embarks on a route learning trip from Bo’ness to Carlisle via Aberdeen, Inverness and Perth. This DVD features 108 mile route filmed on 28th December 2014 from Aberdeen to Inverness via Keith and Elgin, a route which is single track except for 5 ½ mile section which also has a variety of different gradients and passing through a total of 31 now closed stations. Journey begins with departing at 11:27 from platform 7 at Aberdeen and heading on to the single track Aberdeen Inverness line to Dyce. We pause at Dyce to allow a passenger train to pass before moving on along the single track to Inverurie and Insch. Upon leaving a highly well maintained station of Insch we join a 5 ½ mile section of double track travelling on the down line under absolute block working to Kennethmont. At Kennethmont we return to single rack and operate under the control of tokenless block working to Huntley and then on to Keith. Stopping at Keith we pause to allow the passing of a passenger train before the locomotive can continue to Elgin where the method of signalling changes to electric token block system. With the collection of the token from the signalman, 31601 can then depart and travel to Forres where the token is exchanged and then head onwards to Nairn. The token is given up and under the track circuit block working method we move on to the impressive terminus of Inverness. Upon arrival at platform 4 in Inverness at 14:45 the class 31 locomotive moves on to Millburn Yard for fuelling and overnight stabling.
