Description
An Online Video production looking at various diesel motive power which were to be seen working in and around London over many years. Starting with scenes of the trade exhibition held at London Marylebone where British Railway unveiled new diesel locomotives that were to be introduced Among the new introductions we glimpse the prototype Deltic locomotive at London Kings Cross plus newly introduced Warship’s and Class 52 Western Diesel Hydraulics working services on Great Western lines. Then a look at suburban services out of London Marylebone worked by diesel multiple units. Diesel multiple units are also shown working alongside Class 31 locomotive hauled suburban services in and out of London Kings Cross. Afterwards we watch a rail tour departing from London Kings Cross hauled by Class 55 Deltic locomotive 55015 “Tulyar” followed by many Class 52 Western diesel hydraulic locomotives awaiting scrap at Swindon. One of the class which were saved D1013 “Western Ranger” is shown on an enthusiast rail tour. A trip to goods yard at Feltham shows class 08 diesel locomotives undertaking shunting duties. Following is footage from 1986 of an exhibition held at London Cannon Street then action at Stratford with class 47 locomotives as well as being stabled awaiting next duties at the nearby Stratford Depot. Further action features London Waterloo with a variety of classes such as 33’s, 50’s and 73’s. Also see class 25’s on London Underground stock moves from Ruislip. These workings are also shown among the many services operated with class 20’s. Cross London freight action is shown at barking with a further feature with class 165 diesel multiple units in their first day of service out of London Marylebone. More diesel multiple units features includes operation between Gospel Oak and Barking as well as between Ealing Broadway and Greenford. Next are scenes of 1994 with a shuttle service operating to Chesham with class 121 bubble car, a look at class 56’s on Merry Go Round freight trains at Ealing Broadway and more freight action at Clapham Junction and Kensington Olympia. Also from 1994 we take a brief look around Old Oak Common depot showing locomotives awaiting scrap. Final feature on the DVD is class 47 hauled travelling post office train working from London to Dover Priory.
