Description
Covering 2 weekends in 1989 steam once again ran over Metropolitan line of London underground. Steam trains last ran prior to this in 1960. Sarah Siddons, an electric locomotive, was used for the pushing or pulling at the other end of the train. It was enjoyed by many enthusiasts. Weekends were to celebrate 100 years of Chesham Branch running steam trains from Watford to Chesham and Return. Steam locomotives used were 2 ex London Transport pannier tanks. In 1990 a further 2 weekends used steam on the line from Amersham to Harrow On The Hill. A standard class 4 tank was hired in from Midland Railway Centre to haul the trains along with LT Battery Locomotive L44. Again the two preserved ex LT pannier tanks were also used. Many different features including the routes and rare footage from the 60's can be seen.
