First of 2 DVDs that looks back on the history of the trolleybuses that once worked many areas of London which were introduced as part of a plan in replacing trams from 1931 and was to be the largest trolleybus network in the world. In the DVD a detail history is given followed by an in depth look in stages 1 to 8 of the replacement program introduced from 1959 to see trolleybus operation being taking over by busses. First stage was to see end of route 654 from West Croydon to Sutton also routes 696 and 698 to Dartford. Next stage was for route 555 and 581 between Bloomsbury, Leyton and Woodford to be replaced by buses along with route 677 from Smithfield to West India Docks. Trolleybus operation ended as part of stage 3 on route 661 from Leyton to Aldgate, route 663 Leyton to Ilford and Chadwell Heath, route 691 from Barking to Barkingside and route 693 Barking to Chadwell Heath. We then look at stage 4 with route 567 from Barking to Smithfield. In stage 5 we see the end of route 557 from Chingford Mount to Liverpool Street, route 685 from North Woolwich to Walthamstow, route 669 from North Woolwich to Stratford plus routes 689 and 690 which done the Stratford and East Ham circulars. 1960 started with stage 6 and busses replacing trolleybuses on routes 687, 697 and 699 linking Walthamstow, Chingford Mount and Victoria and Albert Docks. We see the last of trolleybus operation on route 611 from Highgate Village to Moorgate, route 626 from Acton along with route 628 from Craven Park to Clapham Junction. DVD then looks at the last of the 1960 replacement program and stage 8 involving route 607 From Uxbridge to Shepherd Bush and route 655 from Acton Vale to Clapham Junction.
