Description
First of two productions by Visions International tracing development of freight of the railway network. This DVD focusses entirely on the years of British Railway era from early 1970’s through to privatisation of 1995. First section is of 1970’s and the changes made from fitted and unfitted vacuum brake trains of various workings to block load workings and air braked operations. Second section covers introduction of Railfreight division which was newly created in 1982. The sections also looks at newly built class 58 diesel locomotives which were to work alongside class 56 diesel locomotives of merry go round coal trains. Also a look at rise of container trains with the introduction of Speedlink services. Next section features the Railfreight division being broken down into sub sectors with each sub sector concentrating on its own commodity with its own fleet of locomotives and wagons. Sub sectors were construction, coal (including nuclear flask), metal, petroleum, distribution and departmental. Final section looks ate the early franchised companies which began to appear towards the end of British Railway prior to full privatisation. Throughout the DVD action is show across various locations using a variety of locomotives
